Obsidian – 3-year-old Trakehner Stallion
Obsidian represents the very best of modern Trakehner breeding, combining two of the breed’s most influential sires: Helium and Schwarzgold. Both stallions have shaped the Trakehner population in recent years with their rideability, brilliance in movement, and outstanding success as sires.
Sired by E.H. Helium (by Millennium), Obsidian carries the celebrated blood of Easy Game, Gribaldi, and Kostolany – a line known worldwide for producing Grand Prix dressage horses, including Olympic champions. On the dam side, he is out of Olympia (Schwarzgold x Cadeau), herself a daughter of one of the most typey and noble modern Trakehner stallions, E.H. Schwarzgold. Through Imperio, Connery, and Buddenbrock, this maternal line adds depth, refinement, and proven sport performance.
Obsidian was highly rated at his Trakehner Verband foal assessment, scoring an impressive 83% overall with a 9 for his trot, confirming his expressive, elastic, and ground-covering gaits. His striking type, correct conformation, and natural presence underline his quality as both a sport horse prospect and a future sire.
His pedigree reads like a “who’s who” of elite Trakehner bloodlines, blending the influence of Cadeau, Silvermoon, Caprimond, Schwadroneur, and Sixtus. The result is a thoroughly modern Trakehner stallion, offering Australian breeders direct access to genetics proven at the highest international level.
The 2025 breeding season will be Obsidian’s first. He is standing at Clarach Trakehner Stud in Tasmania and is available via natural service.
